I’m not here to be a model, and I’m not here to be the prettiest girl in the world. I want to be funny; I want to be interesting. Definitely. I was raised by strict parents. I wasn't allowed to go to the mall alone until I was around 16. I have really smart grounded parents who weren't nouveau riche. They really earned their money and they know the value of a dollar. They gave morals to me and I wouldn't want to do anything that would embarrass my parents. When I was staying at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New York a few years ago, they had a small list of favorite movies you could watch in the room. On this small list of "favorites" they listed What a Girl Wants--I called my mom--seeing a movie I had done appear on this list was really weird and cool. Also, people come up to me and quote me and kind of do my accent, as when I played a guy in She's the Man. That means a lot to me--I've sort of imitated Jim Carrey and Jack Black and Mike Myers--and then to have people doing me. I trained really hard with a man named Eric Vitro, who is one of the best singing coaches in America. I got his name from my agent when I heard there were auditions for Hairspray. I used to do musical plays when I was younger but I haven't sung in a musical in 10 years so I hooked up with Eric and sang for about a month before I auditioned. I auditioned twice and got the part. My father is a retired dentist. As far as religion, I was raised both. I learned about both [Judaism and Catholicism]. My parents said it was up to me to decide [which faith to adhere to] when I grew up. I'm sort of a spiritual person anyway. I believe in being morally correct--treating other people like you like to be treated--karma…. I think there is something else going on. I haven't decided yet [on a religion]. I don't know yet exactly what I believe.
[About being a rolemodel] "I want to win an Academy Award, so obviously I have to play this amazing part sometime, but I’m happy where I am at the meantime." "I’m not a supermodel anyway, and I’m not in this business to show everyone how beautiful I am – I simply want to entertain." "I think women look better and better as they get older, but there is some pressure on them to look a certain way. I personally think we should grow old gracefully. Like, my mum has great hair and it’s beautiful. It looks natural."
[About playing Lucy of 'I love Lucy' for All That]
[About Lovewrecked] "I recently turned 18 and I can definitely be mature when I want to be. But then I’m very immature when I haven’t made my bed in four days or I’m walking around all day in my pajamas. I wish I could say I was more mature, but I’m not." "I’ve got a couple movie projects in the works. I’m not sure what I’ll do next for sure yet. As long as something is well-written and funny, that’s all that matters -- whether it’s a movie, play, or guest spot on another show. My dad and I are actually developing a couple of things. He is a dentist and he is the funniest guy I know. That’s where I get my comedic instincts." "I might apply to NYU next year. I don't know what I want to do yet. I want to continue getting better." "I would like to something dramatic. I just want to do something good. I don't really mind what genre as long as its good." "I would like to do more films. I would love to continue challenging myself. I would like to do some sort of interesting part, no matter what it is. I like to work and that's what keeps me going and makes me tick." "Right now, I'm sort of relaxing. It's the first time in a long time I've had some time off. We're on hiatus from the show and I am in a crossroads where I'm deciding what to do next." "Right now I'm young and I should be aware of the fact that I'm a role model. Whether you like it or not, when you're acting, you are in the public eye and if you're young, you have young people who look up to you. I think that you should be conscious of that?" "I actually learned soccer for this [She's the Man] movie. I had a lot of fun doing it. I'm not athletic at all. I always feel better when I'm moving around, but I think because my job is so active and when I was on the Amanda show I was running around like a wild maniac that I'm always tired by the end of the day." "I might sing if I have to in a movie one day. I want to get better as an actor." "I’m really not funny at all. If I have enough caffeine and sugar, there are occasions when I might find myself amusing, but funny? Nope, I’m not that". "I've always been into art. I also like psychology. That would be just to learn. I would never do something career-wise. If I could continue doing this, there's no reason to stray from it. Maybe I would learn how to write or direct. " "He [Channing Tatum] was a really supportive person and he's a really talented actor. Everybody was really cool. It's hard because I was dressed up as a guy and I was not myself. Everybody was so professional. Even the jokesters, like Robert Hoffman, respected the fact that I was doing it. I think everybody thought, “Wow, its impressive that you could do that,” because I'm 19 and I like looking cute. There were definitely times where I was like, “I'm sick of feeling disgusting and not attractive.” I was having a total identity crisis. I really felt I grew and I feel more comfortable as a girl now." "The one thing I learned is that guys are just as insecure as girls and I think that everybody thinks that the other side has it better off and I think that we all just want to be happy and be liked." "When I heard that it [She's the Man] was based on Shakespeare, it definitely was something that I thought was kind of cool, but we loosely based it on it. We kept the names, but we just wanted to keep the cool factor of Shakespeare, but still kind of make it a little fresher." "When you're still young, you should be young. I think so many girls want to be old, and my parents used to tell me, "Stay as young as you can for as long as you can. People don't want to be old. Once you're old, you want to be young." I want to have fun and be bouncing off the walls and jumping around, because it's not fun to be so serious all the time. That's why I make comedies, because people's lives are serious enough. I'm so happy to be making a movie that makes people laugh." "I think that's a really good way of looking at it, because in this business, people have often tried to cash out on their name or tried to become a product. That's fine, and I totally respect that, for someone who doesn't take themselves seriously as an actor, but for me, I've always been about the work and I think all the other stuff just gets in the way and sort of dilutes you as an actor. People can't believe you as a different person when they see you as a product name."
[On She's the Man] "I remember people saying that they brought cousins or people to the set and they had no idea that was me. So, that was really cool. I was proud that we fooled people. I was really impressed."
[Regarding things like other young stars 'Wardrobe malfunctions' and collisions with paporazzi] "My parents arranged it so I could stay in school and work in the summers. Even when I would do little bits during the school year, I would have a tutor. I was a kid and I loved my friends, so I couldn't do home-schooling. That wasn't me. So I still got to go to my winter formals and take singing lessons, and I had to make my bed."
[Regarding comparisons to Lucille Ball] "As I get older, if there's a beautiful story that calls for something sexual, I'll make that decision. But I don't think there's any reason for me to do it now. So many other people already are." "What I do, like it or not, is seen by kids. I don't feel like I could go to a party and get smashed and make a fool of myself because people do pay attention."
[On being allowed to shape the script of 'She's the Man' a little] ‘‘The reason why it is hard to dress up is you don’t feel like yourself. I’m an actor. It’s more interesting to play. If you can’t take risks like that . . . I’d get bored” ‘‘As soon as I was wearing (the facial hair), I was in character mode. ‘What’s funny about the movie is the guy who helps me dress up is gay.” ‘‘I wish I had an answer for it. I’m 19. I’m going to make mistakes. I’m human. I’m an actor, but I’m not perfect” "Everything in life is so planned. I don't like controlling anything. Everything that I've done has been right for me at that time. I couldn't do what I did three years ago, and I have no idea what I will be doing in 10 years. I just want to tell good stories and do good work -- I don't care what it is" "I just like good scripts and they're really hard to find. When I read 'She's the Man,' it sounded like a perfect fit for me. I knew playing a boy would be a challenge but I wanted to show people I could do it" "I still want to take classes. I just think college is one of those set things for everyone. My life has been different because of acting. And for better or for worse I have different plans" "I'm very girly. I like shimmery eye shadow. I love makeup like Nars and Mac. I'm obsessed with cosmetics like foaming facial wash. I'm the girl whose biggest nightmare would be to lose my makeup bag while traveling." "I never want to be a guy. It was even hard for me to watch the movie for the first time. I brought my sister who told me that for half of the movie I was covering my eyes. It was like watching someone else because I'm a guy, but it's still me. I guess that's surreal. It was also 13 hours a day of not feeling feminine or like a girl. That was definitely hard on the old ego. I feel much more comfortable as girl."
[Would she date herself as a guy]
[On not being plastered in the tabloids]
[On playing a guy in She's the Man]
[On playing a guy in She's the Man] "If there's a choice with that or being in a man's outfit, I'd be like, 'Can I please dress up as a girl?' Because I was a man throughout most of ['She's the Man'], the times that I can be a girl, I'm like, 'More makeup, please.' I think it's my ego wanting a little more caressing." "Flossing is actually more important than brushing. It's one of those things people don't know."

[On dating actors] "I knew that I wanted to be a performer of some sort, like an actress or a comedian, when I was really young, so I worked for that." "I don't really relate to that many people who are my age, especially in this business." "I don't want to have my face on everything. ... I just don't want to be some young brat who is everywhere, It sickens me." "I remember when I did that [Buncha Crunch candy] commercial, recalling her on-camera debut at age 7. "It was my first commercial and I was so excited. There was this little boy who was in the commercial with me, and the first thing he said to me was, 'How many commercials have you done?' I said it was my first one, and he said, 'Well, I've done two'. He had such an attitude about it, and was like, I'm so much better than you." [On her parents] "I love them because they accept me for who I am and they love me with all my faults. I am so grateful for them. I want to be with them forever. This is a good time to tell you! I'm never leaving!" "I have so much that I haven't done yet, I definitely want to play every different role that I can and I want to be working for a long time. I don't know what it is I want to be yet, but I think I'll know it when I see it." "I'm so lucky to be able to make choices that aren't driven by money. When you're a young celebrity, it's alluring to make a lot of money and to flaunt it. That's not the way I was raised. Money is not a priority with me. I want people to be talking about my work as an actress and not my private life." "I'm not perfect by any means. I like having fun and letting my hair down, too, but that's not what I want to be known for. I feel truly fortunate that the paparazzi are not the least bit interested in me." "It [The Amanda Show] was like a kid's version of The Carol Burnett Show. I was in every skit in every show except the one called Totally Kyle." "I love that my character Holly on What I Like About You is finally maturing. In the first two seasons all she did was get into trouble. Finally she's getting smarter and she even has a job." "My family keeps me grounded. We celebrated my 18th birthday at a family restaurant, not some bar or fancy place. That's the kind of family we are." "I enjoy having fun, letting loose; I just don't want to be known for that, Now that I'm 18, I'm an adult technically, but I've sort of always been mature. I like to have fun, but I'm serious. So I don't know, I'm just sort of me." "I don't want to be a celebrity. I don't want to be a big movie star. I mean, it's exciting when you get to do a fun photo shoot and have very talented makeup artists paint you and make you look different. But it's unfulfilling to have the goal of wanting to be a movie star." "You have to have thick skin, I'm lucky enough to be confident in who I am. I'm like, `This is who I am and you can take it or leave it." "I, can [sing] and I've actually started doing musical theatre that's what I started before I did TV so I definitely, you know, enjoy singing ." "I love movies that have a good story. I love movies that make you feel good about yourself but I also love movies make you walk away thinking about them. I like things that have, you know, something to them." "I don't think anybody's trying to stop me from growing up. I mean, I'm looking for roles that are right for me at the time I am doing them and everything I've done has been true to myself and I've never done anything that I haven't loved." "I am lucky because on the show there's a hiatus, you know there is always a good period of time where I could squeeze in a movie. Like this summer I did a movie called "Lovewrecked" which I think will be coming out in spring, so I kind of always have little pieces of time " "There's so much that I want to do in my life I don't know. I mean I love to draw and I love to paint so I don't know if I'll ever do it professionally but I definitely enjoy doing that right now." "I love all the Disney movies, because when I was young there really weren't any. I loved Beauty and the Beast, that was always one of my favorites, and like The Little Mermaid." "I'm really not funny at all. If I have enough caffeine and sugar, there are occasions when I might find myself amusing, but funny? Nope, I'm not that". "My dad and I are actually developing a couple of things. He is a dentist and he is the funniest guy I know. That's where I get my comedic instincts." "I think Will Ferrell is super talented. So, maybe someday I will be fortunate enough to work with him. He's my definition of genius." "Sometimes I'm very immature when I haven't made my bed in four days or I'm walking around all day in my pyjamas. I wish I could say I was more mature, but I'm not." "Well I don't have a boyfriend right now. One day hopefully I'll meet a nice funny guy but I'm happy on my own... I just want someobody who's motivated and has goals for himself I just don't want someone who just wants to hang out with me." "There's no real dirt. I like to draw, I eat popcorn. I don't know! I'm pretty normal." "It's ok to not have piercings!" "I just wanna do one thing at a time. I feel if I wanna go to school I wanna go and commit to school and do a good job. I don't want go and just party" "I'm doing movies right now but I'm definitely going to college, just taking one thing at a time" [Regarding still being at home] "It's really nice. I'm so lucky. I love my family and why move when you're happy?" "I kind of figure that everything happens for reasons.. and everything works out in the end. I think a lot of people, you know, you can get stuck on something and you worry and then it's like, you know, it'll happen anyway without you worrying or not" "I'm not a big fan of online surfing. Sometimes, I check out what fans have done for me, which is flattering, but mostly, Jennie and I use the Internet to look for [purebred] puppies. Jennie's been thinking about getting a dog and I guess I'm helping her shop." "I respect stars who are not like, "I'm an adult now - here are my boobs" [Regarding England] "I learned that it’s not as different as we portray it in the film. We try to magnify the difference between Americans and the English. In real life they like the same music, dress the same and it’s really much more similar than anyone thinks. But as soon as you get off the plane and get in the car and the actual driving is on the other side [of the road] and the driver is the passenger, it’s just weird. It seemed to give me a headache automatically. I was video taping as we were driving and it’s just so beautiful. It is so rich in history and everything and it’s fun to be there" "I'm such a big fan of Frankie. I love Malcolm in the Middle." "I think my parents are a big part of that because I'm still a normal kid. Like there are times I get frustrated because I want to wear certain shoes and they don't want me to wear them. It's all good in the end because I realize that there will be a time and place for high shoes." "I am human and there are times with conflicts with anyone close to you. They say you take advantage of the ones you love. But, just because of my age, I want to do things they aren't ready for me to do yet." "I wouldn't want to stay 10 forever. You have to grow older gracefully. A lot of girls, what they do is they try and show their stomach and stuff. They think that's the only way. It's always better to have a bit of mystery. A lot of girls just give it all away. It's important to respect yourself and other women. You have to be confident in yourself. A lot of girls are so insecure that they think the only way people will like them is if they look a certain way, the superficial side." [Regarding the different crew on 'What a girl wants'] "I’m so protected in my Nickelodeon bubble and “What I Like About You”. It’s all pretty much the same people I’ve worked with before. Going to another country you’re not in your house, you’re with people you’ve never met before and I think it’s definitely a good growing experience." "I have a tutor on the set but I go to regular school. It would be weird for me not to. I'm a social person and I'd go crazy if I couldn't be near my friends." [Regarding reading the 'What a girl wants' script] "I didn’t know if I wanted to do a movie. Then I heard Colin Firth was interested and I was like “What? He’s interested?” I said “let me look at that again.” " "He was amazing. Even better than I thought he would be. He’s down to earth and has such a good sense of humor and is so charming and such a lovely guy." "In real life I’m into sweats but I do like to get dressed up like most girls at least. The one fancy dress I wanted to keep was the white dress because I thought if I ever get married one day it would be a big help. At the end I had to wear it for so long that it gave me bruises and it wasn’t as comfortable." " I've always wanted to be a movie star like Julia Roberts. Hey, shoot high..shoot for the moon."
