It was a whirlwind weekend of fun in the freezing cold at the Sundance Film Festival (more on that tomorrow), but one of the highlights was definitely catching up with our new favorite screen-queen style-setter, Elizabeth Olsen. With two movies at the fest, Red Lights and Liberal Arts, the newest Olsen on the scene was a busy girl, and we counted our lucky stars to score such a lengthy, dishy chat! With the most stunning wide green eyes, and the chillest demeanor, we found out that this ultra-down-to-earth (she shops and sells at resale hotspot Wasteland!) 22-year-old is into way more than clothes and clubs. Who knew just how insanely cool MK&A's little sis really was? Yup, we definitely have a new wannabe bestie, and you will, too, after reading our exclusive interview! |

The film, directed, written by and starring "How I Met Your Mother" lead Josh Radnor, came to the festival with a low profile. While Radnor's debut directoral effort "happythankyoumoreplease" took home the festival's audience award in 2010, the movie failed to translate outside of Park City, Utah, flopping at the box office with just over $200,000 in ticket sales. Perhaps as a result, there wasn't much buzz about "Liberal Arts," in which Radnor plays Jesse, a thirtysomething pining for his days at Kenyon College, a small school in the Ohio countryside (which the actor actually attended). While visiting an old professor at Kenyon, Jesse meets Zibby (Elizabeth Olsen), a bubbly, idealistic sophomore. The two share a passion for reading and begin trading handwritten letters once Jesse heads back to his unfulfilling job in New York City. While Zibby is thrilled to be embarking on a romance with an older guy, Jesse's unease over the age difference begins to complicate things. Read the full article here |

When a 21-year-old blonde actress with a famous last name was sighted in Park City, Utah, for Sundance in January 2011, the blogosphere lit up with an erroneous headline: “There is . . . Another . . . Olsen Twin . . . ” But by the time the festival wrapped, the conversation surrounding Elizabeth Olsen—younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley by almost three years—had shifted to her star turns in two harrowing indie dramas. In one, Silent House—a remake of Uruguayan director Gustavo Hernández’s 2010 film of the same name—she portrays a girl trapped in a decaying lake house that mirrors her mental state. The lo-fi horror feature, directed by Open Water (2003) duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, hits theaters next month. In Olsen’s other 2011 Sundance film, Martha Marcy May Marlene, for which Sean Durkin earned directing honors, she plays a possibly delusional young woman recently escaped from a cult who shakes up life at her sister’s pristine vacation house. As Durkin’s psychological thriller made the festival grand tour from Cannes to Toronto, the accolades for Olsen’s subtle performance as the troubled Martha piled up. |
