Glenn Close, Elizabeth Olsen set for 'Therese Raquin'
November 11th

As two leading contenders for this season’s Best Actress awards, Albert Nobbs star Glenn Close and Martha Marcy May Marlene breakout Elizabeth Olsen will definitely be seeing a lot of each other over the next few months. And after the awards season ends, the pair will go head-to-head for the period drama Therese Raquin. A source close to the production tells EW exclusively that Close and Olsen will costar in the film, based on the 19th century novel and play by Emile Zola. It’s set to shoot in the spring.
Described as a dark, erotic thriller, the film, set in Paris in 1867, follows young Therese (Olsen), who is forced by her aunt, Madame Raquin (Close), into a loveless marriage to her sick, spoiled first cousin. Therese soon becomes obsessed with her husband’s friend Laurent and is pulled into a devastating affair with him that unravels all of their lives. Close has been attached to the project for years; the role of Laurent has yet to be cast.
Therese Raquin will be directed by Charlie Stratton, who also wrote the screenplay adaptation. The film is being produced by Mickey Liddell (The Grey) and William Horberg (The Kite Runner).

Elizabeth Olsen, Sarah Gadon and more vying for “Winter’s Tale”
November 6th

Some of our favorite up and comers will be competing against one another for a pair of roles in Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman’s directorial debut and passion project, “Winter’s Tale”, from the novel by Mark Helprin, not the Shakespearean classic. The love story will require “chemistry reads” between various combinations of young actors and THR reports among them are Tom Hiddleston, Benjamin Walker, Elizabeth Olsen, Bella Heathcote, Gabrielle Wilde and Sarah Gadon. The actors will be reading with one another over this weekend at Warner Bros, the studio behind the project.
Helprin’s 1983 novel takes place in a New York City that is markedly different from the island as we know it. It takes place in the 19th Century and follows a man named Peter Lake. A bad childhood forced him to join a gang and become a thief, only to end up estranged from the group and making a mortal enemy of its leader, Pearly Soames. On a house robbery, Peter meets and falls for the terminally ill Beverly Penn. She becomes the catalyst and the force of change in his life. Russell Crowe is said to be loosely attached to the role of Soames, and another major character is a mythical flying white horse, Athansor, who acts as Peter’s guardian.

Anton Yelchin joins “Very Good Girls” Elizabeth Olsen and Dakota Fanning
November 6th

One of our favourite male rising stars is joining two of our favourite female rising stars in Naomi Foner’s “Very Good Girls”.
Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen signed on back in May to play two teenage girls, who after graduating from high school move to New York City, where each girl becomes determined to lose her virginity – to the same charismatic street artist. At the time, we knew that Peter Sarsgaard, Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek were also onboard, and we contemplated the possibility that Sarsgaard may be the street artist.
Well, word has now come, from Jake Gyllenhall (Foner’s son) that Anton Yelchin has also signed on to the film – and although we still have no confirmation about which role he will be taking, we think that Yelchin as the street artist makes much more sense – and the thought of Yelchin, Olsen and Fanning is one film makes this one of our highly anticipated films of 2012!
